What is the difference between Lotus Foundations Start & Branch Office?

Lotus Foundations Start expects to be the only Lotus Domino server and includes the appropriate license. If your already using Lotus Domino you need Lotus Foundations Branch Office in your remote office which would become an additional server in your Lotus Notes domain, It would enable that office to continue to work in the event of a network breakdown.

I already have a file server, why do I need Lotus Foundations?

If your considering updating your server, adding a backup tape drive or any other IT related upgrade then a Lotus Foundations applicance may be a very cost-effective option to give you what you need plus new capability in a single package. You can phase in the new Foundations server to minimise disruption and on completion redeploy the old server to less critical work or even sell it on to even further reduce the costs.

How much is it and how do I get one?

You can only buy Lotus Foundations through an IBM Business partner who will carry out the installation and configuration. The applicance will almost maintain itself but cost will depend on the number of users and the level of ongoing support you need from your business partner. A remote support contract is recomended so that their technical staff can monitor the equipment and carry out upgrades as required without needing to ever disturb you at your office.
