The recent release of Notes/ Domino 8.5 leaves you spoiled for choice, its now even easier than ever to improve communication and information flow through your business. This frees staff of repetitive and inefficient activity leaving them able to concentrate on more important and stimulating work. If your already using Notes then its time to make your investment work harder, if your not then its surprisingly inexpensive to take advantage of its capabilities.
We have now moved our development projects to 8.0 this is now very stable, the maintenance upgrade 8.0.1 is readily available and 8.0.2 is available to Passport license holders. We have also upgraded our internal server to 8.5, this was completely without incident. The long running capabilities of IBM/ Lotus in regard to support for previous versions is such that you can always upgrade your servers to the latest version of Notes/ Domino without needing to be overly concerned about databases (now called applications) developed in earlier versions.
We still have two projects which we will continue to develop using version 7 as those clients have not yet upgraded their servers. We do not support the development of applications where the client version is more recent than the hosting servers. It does not always create problems but when it does they are generally so confusing and erratic that a great deal of time is wasted investigating them.
